Spanning the width of the motorway, the 7 gantries support electronic lane control signs that help to improve safety, traffic flow and provide road information for Wellington motorway users. The gantries range in length from 17 metres to 34 metres.
Pressure testing was carried out on each individual gantry to ensure that they are completely sealed to ensure no moisture build up. The gantries need to be ultra long life because maintenance for them has been specified at 25 years.
Transportation and installation of the gantries was done at night and part of the motorway was shut down during installation.
